Twenty-six Years of Community, One Pumpkin at a Time

This year marks our 26th annual Pumpkin Giveaway at the Tuscany Club, and I wanted to share why this October tradition means so much to our team and community.

Every fall, we transform part of the Tuscany Club into a proper pumpkin patch - twelve huge bins worth of pumpkins spread across the ground, creating that authentic patch experience. Kids weave between the rows, searching for their perfect pumpkin while families snap photos and strike poses. Some families arrive in costumes, adding such joy to the day - and I still remember that adorable dog dressed as a shark!

The excitement is wonderful when children arrive clutching their colouring contest entries, eager to show off their artwork. But what truly touches me is watching this community come together for such an important cause - parents kneeling down to explain to their little ones why we're here, helping them understand that their food donations will help other families in need.

Writing a cheque to the food bank would be simpler, but it would miss the point entirely. This event creates something money alone cannot: genuine community spirit. Families from across Calgary, Bearspaw, and surrounding areas make this their October tradition, and we've watched the community grow together through 26 years of photos and memories.

The donations help families in our own community who may be facing difficult times. And the sense of belonging, the annual reunion of neighbors, and the joy of creating something meaningful together? That's what makes this day one of my favourites all year.
